These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Ardent Forge ("the app," "we," "our"). By using Ardent Forge, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Ardent Forge is a workout logging and programming application for personal use. It is a tool, not a fitness service, personal training service, or medical service. It does not provide fitness advice, exercise prescriptions, dietary guidance, or medical recommendations.
The app is MIT-licensed open-source software. You can view, fork, and self-host the source code on GitHub. These Terms apply to the maintainer-hosted instance and any official distribution channels (Google Play Store, Apple App Store). Operators of self-hosted instances are responsible for their own terms with their users.
Eligibility. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By creating an account, you confirm you meet this requirement.
Account security. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password. Notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
Accurate information. You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep it current. We do not require your real name — a display name or pseudonym is acceptable.
One account per person. Do not create multiple accounts to circumvent any limitations or restrictions.
You agree to use Ardent Forge only for its intended purpose — logging and planning your own workouts. You agree not to:
Coach responsibilities. If you use Ardent Forge as a coach, you are responsible for the programs and templates you create and assign. The app is a tool — the quality and safety of the programming you provide to athletes is your responsibility, not ours.
Data visibility. When you join an accountability group or coaching relationship, you are agreeing to share specified data with other members. Review the visibility settings before joining. Private fields (body weight, perceived difficulty, personal notes) are excluded from all group queries by default — verify your group's settings if you have concerns.
Athlete control. Athletes retain control over their own data at all times. Coaches have write access to programs and templates only — never to workout logs. Athlete edits always supersede coach-provided defaults.
Ardent Forge is not a medical service. The app does not provide medical advice, diagnose conditions, or recommend treatments. Nothing in the app constitutes medical, therapeutic, or clinical guidance.
Exercise carries risk. Physical training involves inherent risk of injury. You assume all risk associated with your training choices. Before beginning any new exercise program, consult a qualified healthcare provider, especially if you have any pre-existing health conditions.
Percentage-based loading. The app calculates training weights from 1RMs you provide. The accuracy of these calculations depends entirely on the accuracy of the 1RMs you enter. Incorrect 1RM values will produce incorrect training weights. You are responsible for validating and updating your 1RMs appropriately.
No warranty of fitness outcomes. We make no representations or warranties about fitness results, performance improvements, or any other outcome from using the app.
Ownership. You own your workout data. We claim no ownership over the content you log in Ardent Forge.
License to operate. By using the app, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and synchronize your data for the sole purpose of providing the app's features to you. This license does not extend to selling your data, using it for advertising, or any purpose outside operating the app.
Export. You can export your data at any time. We support this and will not obstruct it.
Deletion. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time. Deletion is processed within 30 days.
No uptime guarantee. Ardent Forge is provided without any service level agreement or uptime guarantee. We may experience downtime, perform maintenance, or encounter outages without advance notice. Since the app is offline-first with local SQLite storage, your data and core functionality remain available even when the cloud backend is unreachable.
Changes to the app. We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time. Material changes to these Terms will be communicated with reasonable notice before they take effect. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
Self-hosting as continuity. Because Ardent Forge is MIT-licensed and open source, even if the maintainer-hosted instance is discontinued, you retain the ability to self-host. Your data is portable.
Ardent Forge is released under the MIT License. The source code is publicly available on GitHub. The Iron & Ember design system, logo, and brand assets are not included in the MIT license and remain proprietary. You may not use Ardent Forge's name, logo, or brand assets without explicit permission.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ARDENT FORGE AND ITS CONTRIBUTORS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR PHYSICAL INJURY ARISING FROM USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP.
IN JURISDICTIONS THAT DO NOT ALLOW LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR PERSONAL INJURY OR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, THIS LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Ardent Forge and its contributors from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the app, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the app shall be resolved in the courts of Harris County, Texas.
By you. You may stop using Ardent Forge and delete your account at any time.
By us. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, particularly those that compromise the security or availability of the service for other users. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination except in cases of severe or repeated violations.
